Furnished Apartments – A Logical Alternative
Posted by admin in Real Estate on January 24th, 2010
There are many reasons to choose finding a furnished apartment. Sure, they cost more, but sometimes it’s actually more cost effective than the more expensive alternatives.
A common scenario is the business person who has never quite settled down. He is transferred almost annually and the stress of packing a huge household is not worth the effort. He found out early on that it’s easier to pack a few suitcases and simply move into his new furnished quarters, unencumbered with hundreds of boxes that most probably will never be unpacked anyway.
Other times it’s because they never bought furniture at all and it’s nice to have everything brand new every time they move. It’s just easier to pack up your personal belongings only, and forget the stress of hiring large interstate moving companies. Even that can get expensive! You can do a short term rental, or even a longer term.
Choosing this type of apartment means you could possibly have two separate contracts, which is ideally what you should have. Having your own contract for the furniture is terrific because you can choose what you want, make changes every so often (Want a new couch? Just ask!), and never need to watch your furniture get old and warn out – while you’re still paying for it!
It’s no different than leasing a car – you pay for the time you have the item. It doesn’t get old, and you can keep turning it in almost whenever you want. Actually, with furniture, by the time you pay for it, it’s time for new stuff, right? You might as well just pick out what you like and rent it.
How Green is your Home?

You would need to have been living on Mars if you had not heard of global warming and the negative effect we are having on our environment. Â As a result many people have become leaders in green living and spend much of their day devoted to ensuring they are reducing their carbon footprint. Â Whilst not all of us are this devoted there are a number of things that we can do to make our homes more environmentally friendly which can often save us money as well. Â Here we have listed some top tips for you to try.
1. Â When you replace light bulbs go for the energy efficient variety. Â These use a different system to produce the light, using a fraction of the energy used by traditional bulbs and they also last up to twelve times longer. Â Lighting is estimated to make up between 10 and 15% of your energy bills so there is a large saving to be made here.
2. Â Up to a third of the clean drinking water we use in our households is flushed down the toilet every day. Â On average each flush uses eight litres of water. Â You can easily fit a save-a-flush bag into your toilet cistern which will reduce water usage by approximately one litre for each flush. Â Often your local water company will provide these so it need not cost you a penny to fit.

Was the End of 2009 Just the Beginning for Home Foreclosures?
Posted by admin in Real Estate on January 15th, 2010
Last year we kept hearing how the recession was over or almost over and things were going to look up at any moment. Well, 2009 came and went and we soon discovered that the recession was, in fact, not over. The question now is not if millions of people are going to lose their homes—which millions already have—but what the final toll of homes in foreclosure is going to be when this economic is finally over.
Part of the problem was that many people across the nation lost their jobs last year or had their hours severely cut back, leaving them with smaller household incomes. The concern for the current year is that number of unemployed people across the US is still very high and may in fact continue to rise this year. This will continue to be a problem until not only the official unemployment rate changes for the better, but also the rate of under-employed people across the country.
Another problem is that the Federal Reserve program to buy mortgage-backed securities will be ending on March 31st of this year; this program has been helping to keep the interest rate on mortgages low. The program was quite a success and did, in fact, help keep interest rates down to much more appealing levels than we had seen in years for all of 2009.
