Located on the shores of beautiful Lake Placid, in New York, this is the perfect spot for couples on their honeymoon-or for men (or women) who want to pop the question. He staff here will gladly help make this the most memorable experience of a lifetime.

This lakeside lodge is a charming Adirondack retreat. Built in the 1920′s at or near the water’s edge, these cabins have all been skillfully renovated to include king or queen-size featherbeds, large stone fireplaces, sitting areas, pleasing to the eye rustic furniture and wet bars. All have lush bathrooms, with enormous soaking tubs and spacious separate showers. Gigantic picture windows expose out of this world lake and mountain vistas. A full Adirondack breakfast is included for all visitors,

Whether you visit in winter or summer, there is always something to do. Winter can have you participating in a dog sled ride, skiing or ice fishing. Summer provides opportunity for hiking, boating, playing gold, fishing, horseback riding or tennis. For the couples, you can take a canoe out to a private island for a leisurely day alone together.

For those who want to cozy up inside, the cabins offer working fireplaces, in-room modem links and a wet bar. The tubs are large and perfect for a nice long hot bubble bath. While all the cabins are spectacular, one stands above the rest. Owl’s Head is a very special cabin. Set just a step or two from the edge of the lake, the cabin’s private porch is fringed by a small, tumbling brook. The room has a vast hand-crafted stone fireplace and a king-size featherbed shaped from a tree. In the vast bathroom, there is a two-person jacuzzi jet tub, a dry sauna, and a six-headed steam shower. This spacious, one-room suite is the most luxurious and romantic.

Nestled in the scenic lower Connecticut River valley is The Riverwind Inn. Even before stepping inside you will feel like you have stepped into our colonial past. From its wrap around porch to the vine covered railings you almost expect to see the emergence of the original patriots. Let’s step inside to see what our gracious hosts have to offer us.

Ascending the stairs to the third floor we come to the aptly named Moonlit Suite. With a queen sized bed there is also a full sized bed in an alcove for that occasional additional guest. There is even a sitting room and a double Jacuzzi to add to the comforts. With its mahogany four-poster bed and colonial furnishings the Champagne and Roses suite is ideal for the romantic side.

If your tastes run towards the classics, then Zelda’s room is truly taken from The Great Gatsby. This two-room suite features a brass queen sized bed. The décor of rose hearts within a field of blue is found in the Hearts and Flowers suite and is complete with the four-poster bed. Echoing our puritan beginnings, twin four-poster double beds accent the Quilt room.

On the first floor we find the Willow Room with its white iron and brass queen sized bed. Truly American is the Smithfield Suite with its red, white and blue quilt on the high converted rope double bed. With wallpaper by Raymond Waites and a collection of cottage country pine, the Harlow Suite is simple elegance. The headboard of the queen-sized bed has painted panel insets that echo the graceful floral motif of each corner of the room.

The Riverwind Inn provides a full complimentary country breakfast to jumpstart your day of shopping and sightseeing. Located amid some of the most historic parts of New England, the shops abound in the many small villages of the area. There is also some very excellent theater nearby

Moose don’t have their own bed and breakfasts, or do they? Don’t be surprised to find these Alaskan natives visiting Highland Glen Lodge in Anchorage, Alaska. This quaint Tudor mansion belies the elegance within. Your first view makes you think you’ve stepped off American soil and straight to the English countryside. Highland Glen Lodge is in the shadows of the Chugach Mountains with breathtaking views of the rugged mountains and Cook Inlet.

The English theme carries through to the breakfast fare. You are treated to a blend of English/Scottish country dining mixed with the flavor of the Alaskan frontier. After a delightful breakfast join your family and guests in the Great room. Relax over coffee on the plush furnishings. Floor to ceiling windows offer a spectacular view of the Alaskan countryside.

For your first or fiftieth honeymoon, a stay in the Highlander room is a must. Not only is there a king sized bed, but also a tower and a balcony. You can go from the lounge into the double Jacuzzi for added enjoyment. To make the honeymoon complete, in room breakfast is available. The Glen View room also has a king sized bed with a beautiful view of Cook Inlet. Planning on having three or more in your party? Then The Birchwoods has the extra room with a twin bed. For the ultimate in a family or group gathering, the three room Woodlands Suite is just what you are looking for. There is a private sauna, one king sized bed and two queen sized. Alaska may seem to be the last frontier with civilization many miles away; each room does have Internet access. Although out of sight of the world, you are still in close contact.

All of the rooms come complete with a hot tub and access to the roof patio lounge.

Historic Genoa, near Lake Tahoe and Carson City in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, is Nevada’s oldest settlement. It is the location of the Genoa House Inn, an authentic Victorian home listed in the National Register of Historical Places. The house has been restored to the charm and tranquility of an earlier time.

The Rose Room is accented in mallard green and burgundy, has a hand-made barn wood queen-size bed, and is furnished with Victorian antiques. This spacious room has a private balcony and large, stained glass windows.

The Blue Room is accented in a soft gray-blue with mahogany antiques and a queen bed. The private bath in the hall is equipped with a Jacuzzi tub and an overhead shower.

The Garden Room offers a queen bed and is accessed by a gentle path leading across the yard to a covered porch with a private entrance. Take a relaxing bath in the claw foot bathtub.

Early in the morning, your choice of coffee or tea is delivered to your door, followed by a full breakfast served either in your room or in the sunlit dining room.

Genoa is an image of the Old West, with a panoramic view of the abundant Carson Valley and the nearby mountains. Genoa’s local activities consist of soaring, ballooning, and bicycling in the Valley. The allure of the old town invites you to a casual walk, touring the Victorian homes and antique buildings with their various businesses, from Nevada’s oldest saloon to nearby David Walley’s Hot Springs.

Genoa House is only minutes away from surrounding attractions: everything from skiing and boating at Lake Tahoe to the historical sights of Virginia City. Capture its charm with your camera or just your heart. Whatever you do, this place will forever remain a part of your fondest memories.
